Ida Turner
January 9, 1861 - June 26, 1881
Ida (nee Lawrence) Turner was a daughter of Horace A. Lawrence and Lorinda Windsor (Horace’s first wife before he married Edna Smithers). Horace A. Lawrence was a pioneer of York Township and a Civil War veteran. His parents were Jesse and Almeda (nee Benedict) Lawrence, who were also York pioneers. Lorinda Windsor was a daughter of Anson Windsor, another York pioneer. She was also a sister to Sophronia Lawrence-Bassett (the widow of Jesse Lawrence’s brother, Harvey, and the second wife of Edwin B. Bassett), Esther Livingston (Sam Livingston's wife) and Jane Palmer (Joseph Palmer's wife). Ida Turner was a sibling to other people buried in the York Center Cemetery, including: Burton Lawrence, Lillian Vandeberg, and Melvin Lawrence. In addition, she was a half sibling to Lois Vandeberg, Orin Lawrence, Roy Lawrence, Floy Huntley, Earl Lawrence, Olive Campbell, Carrie Lawrence, and Horace H. Lawrence. who are also buried in York Center Cemetery. Another sibling of Ida's was George Lawrence, who is interred at Tacoma, Washington. Ida married William H. “Pint” Turner, a son of Abel and Arvilla Turner, early pioneers of York Township. They were married on December 1, 1879 at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Neillsville, Wisconsin.[i] At the age of 20, Ida Mae Turner was accidentally shot and killed, and was the first person buried in York Center Cemetery. Later her husband William “Pint” married Ida's first cousin, Bessie Livingston (Sam and Esther Livingston’s daughter).William
