Abel Turner

December 22, 1806 - February 12, 1892

Abel Turner was a very early pioneer of York Township.  He and two of his children came to Wisconsin from Maine after his first wife died.  After he relocated to Wisconsin, he married the former Arvilla Thompson.  One of his children from that second marriage was Abie Turner who married Harriet (Hattie) Lindsley, a daughter of George and Sarah (nee Lawrence) Lindsley, who were also early settlers of York Township.  Other children from his second marriage include William "Pint" Turner and Ben Turner who are also buried at York Center Cemetery.  Although not confirmed, it is believed that Melvin Turner (who is also interred at York Center Cemetery), was one of the two sons from Abel's first marriage.[cemeteries/footer_gif.html]
