Plans Underway for 64th annual Granton Fall Festival

Plans for the 64th annual Granton Fall Festival are underway, with the event scheduled for Sept. 5 through 7 this year.  Nominations are currently open for Honored Citizens and Honored Grandparents.  All nominations for both honored adult categories should be sent to Cheryl Steinbach, Granton High School 217 North Main Street, Granton, WI 54436. Be sure to note which award category the nomination is for, and they must be postmarked by July 31.

Nominations for the Honored Citizens of Granton, which is sponsored each year by the Granton Rotary Club, are to recognize outstanding community members.  The Honored Citizen recipient may be an individual or a couple who resided in the Granton area most of their life.  Nomination letters highlighting what the candidates have done for the Granton area community should be submitted.

The Honored Grandparent winner is determined from essays submitted by youth on the topic of “Why My Grandparents Are Special.”  The Granton FFA Alumni, which sponsors the award, has established only one essay per grandparent nomination may be submitted, and it should be limited to 500 words or less.

Applications are also still being taken for the Granton Fall Festival Queen.  Applications may be picked up at the Citizens State Bank in Granton, and they are also due July 31.  The reigning queen and her court will oversee the weekend’s activities and then represent Granton throughout the upcoming year at all of the local community events.

The winners of the Honored Citizen and Grandparent Awards will lead this year’s Fall Festival parade Sunday, Sept. 7, and they will also be recognized at the annual queen coronation Friday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Granton fire station.

The annual Granton Fall Festival has become a huge annual event for the Granton community and many former residents.  The committee is working hard to plan another fun-filled weekend, with this year’s theme being from the Wizard of Oz, “There’s No Place Like Home.”  There will be numerous family activities throughout the weekend, so mark the dates on the calendar and watch for flyers with more information in the future.
