Herbert Gibson

October 22, 1868 - October 16, 1900

Herbert Gibson was an early settler of York Township.  He was born in Fond du Lac County, a son to Edward and Frances Gibson.[i]  He married Maude Humiston in 1895 at York Center Methodist Church.  The 1900 Federal, Clark County, York Township Census lists a Herbert Gibson (31) and his wife, Maude (22).  Similarly, the 1880 Census shows a Maude Humiston (2) as a daughter to a J. (Jesse) and Lustina Humiston.  Jesse Humiston was a pioneer of York Township and a Civil War veteran.  Herbert Gibson is believed to have been a brother to Emma Root (George Root's wife), Hannah Graves (Walter Graves' wife) and Martha Graves (believed to have been Walter Graves' second wife); all whom are buried in York Center Cemetery.  Herbert died as a young man of typhoid fever.[ii]
