Beilfuss, Bruce F. (Honored - 1983)

The State Bar of Wisconsin will be honoring Bruce F. Beilfuss, the retiring chief justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court on June 25 at MECCA in Milwaukee. Justice Beilfuss is a Clark County native, was a former county DA and a longtime judge in Neillsville.

Hundreds of lawyers, judges and friends are expected to turn out for a reception, dinner and multi-media presentation designed to pay tribute to the state’s foremost jurist. Beilfuss will retire in August after serving more than 20 years on the Supreme Court and 15 years as a circuit court judge.

Entitled “A Salute to the Chief,” the program will open with a 7:00 p.m. reception, with music provided. Tickets for the dinner, program and a special commemorative gift are available through the State Bar Center, P.O. Box 7158, Madison, WI 53707.

A native of Withee, Beilfuss is a graduate of Neillsville High School, UW-Madison and the UW-Madison School of Law. His public office career in the legal profession traces to 1941 through 1948, when he served as Clark County District Attorney. After that, he embarked on his 35-year-long judicial career, including many years as judge in Clark County.

Beilfuss also is known throughout the state and in Madison as a man with a heart, who has made great contributions of his personal time as the founder of the Dane County Big Brothers program for fatherless children and as a long-time supporter of Boys State in Ripon.

Beilfuss has not lost his connection to Neillsville either. He often returns to Neillsville and has made the community his traditional deer hunting area.
