ABBOTSFORD -- Owen Ayres and Associates of Eau Claire will be processing a
federal government block grant application for Abbotsford which would provide
funds for new construction at Abbyland Processing.
The decision to hire Owen Ayres was made at a City Council meeting Monday.
Peter Staks of Owen Ayres said the application will include an up-front city
expenditure of $2,500. If the grant is approved, the city will pay another
$3,500 to the consulting firm.
Staks had said that the Abbyland project had a good chance of being funded
because it would create new jobs and also because the business would invest a
considerable amount of money itself.
Abbyland's plan include a $.65 million construction project for an expanded
processing operation that would add 75 jobs. In addition to the block grant
funding, the expansion plans hinge on securing more land. Abbyland is interested
in buying an adjacent 80-foot strip of land from the city.
