Duerkop, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer (40th – 8 March 1978)

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Duerkop celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary recently at the Community Hall, hosted by their sons, Alton and Mr. and Mrs. John Duerkop. Foster daughters, Tammy Duerkop of Milwaukee and Marie Johnson and family of La Crosse, came to assist. Tammy helped little Krista with the guest book and Debbie Johnson served punch.

The program consisted of revised popular songs of the 1930’s era to fit the occasion. Alton sang “Bless This House” at the church service, Sunday, accompanied by Mrs. Jim Duerkop. The Atomic Workers 4-H members, Pam and Sue Selz, Cecille, Christine and Veroneque D’Huyvetter and Cherie and Carol Holman, sang several numbers.

On March 8, 1938, it was an icy cold day so, April was chosen for the observance. It was a snowy and icy day resulting in many phone calls from friends that couldn’t come.

Glen Christenson, a foster son, phoned best wishes; he was recently discharged from the Army. Phone calls from former foster children never cease to surprise the Duerkops.

A very long list of many relatives, friends and neighbors from Humbird and many surrounding towns, and area of the state and a few from out of state ventured out, despite the weather, and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Duerkop and wished them well. Visitors of near 100 visited.
