Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yartz came to Greenwood in 1913. They came from Pittsburg,
Kansas, bought a farm on Route 5 and started farming. They had no children of
their own so in 1927 they took in Stanley Raik from the orphanage at Sheboygan,
Wisconsin to live with them. He was 13 years old then.
Joe Yartz passed away in 1935. Then Mary and Stanley farmed until 1964. They
sold the farm and moved to town where Stanley bought a tavern.
Mary lived with Stanley until 1976 when her health failed and she was put in the
Nursing Home at Neillsville. She passed away in September of 1979 at the age of
94.
