Clark Co. Male Chorus to Host Spring Sing (6 April 2019)

The Clark County Male Chorus will host their 52nd annual Spring Sing this Satruday, April 6, at Calvary Lutheran Church 213 Hill Street, Neillsville. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.

“There will be a variety of sacred, secular, patriotic and ‘just plain fun’ songs performed,” wrote chorus member Harry Johnson in a press release.

The Rochester Male Chorus from Rochester, Minnesota will joining the Clark County Male Chorus at this year’s event. Each chorus will sing several songs alone before joining together for a final group of selections.

The Clark County Male Chorus was organized in 1964 and members served as singing ambassadors for the county. The group has about 24 members who perform at many different functions from September to May.

The chorus is under the direction of Shelby Niskanen and is accompanied by Rhonda Eskildsen, both of Loyal. The chorus’ performances this season began with the annual joint Christmas concert with the Clark County Choraliers, the women’s counterpart to the Clark County Male Chorus.

Over the years, the chorus has sung in churches in Greenwood, Loyal, Neillsville, Granton, Chili, Cadott, Abbotsford, Colby, Willard, Boyd, Riplinger, Thorp, Stanley, Longwood, Marshfield and Medford. The group has also sung in area nursing homes, at American legion events and at numerous other functions in the surrounding area.

“The Clark County Male Chorus is always looking for a few good men to sing and continue their proud tradition,” Johnson wrote. “Being able to read music is not a requirement of joining the group. An enthusiasm for singing and dedication to rehear sing is all that is required.”

Rehearsals are two hours long and take place Monday evenings at the Greenwood High School from September through May.

Tickets for this year’s Spring Sing are available from Clark County Male Chorus members or at the door the evening of the concert.
