Zettler, Alton (16 OCT 1920 – 11 MAY 1970)

Funeral services for Alton Zettler, 49, of the town of Johnson route 2, Athens (Marathon Co., Wis.), were held Friday, May 15, 1970, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Athens.

Mr. Zettler was killed Monday, May 11, 1970 in a construction accident in Manitowoc County.

He was working as a contractor on a road project on Highway 42, and died when a roller packer he was operating overturned, pinning him underneath.

Father Charles Schumacher officiated at the servvcies. Interment was made in Wuerzberg Cemetery.

A rosary was said Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Gilles and Son Funeral Home at Athens.

Alton F. Zettler was born October 16, 1920, the son of the late Frank Zettler Sr. and Mrs. Josephine Zettler of Abbotsford.

He received his education in Athens area schools. His married to the former Marjorie Wozniak, who survives him, took place at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Athens, June 29, 1940.

He was a road construction contractor and lived in the area all his life.

Besides his wife, nine children survive. They are Anthony of the town of Johnson, Dale of Athens, David and Gene at home, Mrs. Melvin Carter of Colby, Mrs. James Bollech of Park Falls, Mrs. Norbert Lavicka of Appleton, and Carol and Lori, at home.

Also surviving are four brothers, Martin of the town of Johnson, Arnold of Point Arena, California, Frank Jr. of Athens, and Melvin of Loyal, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Mauer of San Jose, California, Mrs. Peter Boris of the town of Reitbrock, and Mrs. Norbert Calmes of the town of Johnson.

There are 12 grandchildren.

A son, Wilfred, preceded him in death.
