Leona H. Beisner (22 May 1918 - 21 Sep 2000) Leona H. Beisner, 82, Dorchester, died on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services for Leona were held on Saturday, Sept.23, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Dorchester, with Rev. Jerome Freimuth presiding.  Burial was in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Poncek, Fred Heisler, Allen Niemi, Jon Lynn, Bill Driegel and Ron Beisner.

Visitation was held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Friday, Sept. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The former Leona Hulda Bartz was born on May 22, 1918, in the Town of Deer Creek, Taylor County the daughter of Frederick and Ida (Perlick) Bartz.

Leona and Albert E. Beisner were united in marriage on May 22, 1945, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Dorchester.  They farmed the family farm in the Town of Mayville, where Leona resided after the death of Albert.  She moved to the Village o f Dorchester in 1981.  They were given the Dorchester Centennial Award for longest family farm ownership.

Leona lived a very active life, serving on the Clark County Nutritional Board, as registration secretary for the Dorchester park and as Town of Mayville Polling Clerk.  She was a former Dorchester news correspondent for the Abbotsford Tribune-Phonograph and the Marshfield News Herald and was a member of the Dorchester Senior Citizens. 

She was a member of St. Peter’s Church and the Ladies Aid, the Hilltop Homemakers and the Dorchester American Legion Auxiliary.  Leona loved to play cards with her family and many friends, enjoyed gardening and reaping the harvest, and was a great cook and baker.  She also enjoyed needlework, especially crocheting, and was always ready to travel.  She had been a resident of the Colonial House in Colby the past three years.

Leona will be sadly missed by her family: three sons: Dennis (Jean) Beisner, Colby, Galen Beisner, Medford, and Doug (Doris) Beisner, Wausau; one sister, Rose Bleck, Prentice; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Beisner, June 27, 1979; one infant daughter, Lynette Beisner; and one brother, Roland Bartz.
