Harald V. Christensen (20 Nov 1906 – 9 Jan 2002)

Harald V. Christensen, 95, of Owen, died Wednesday, Jan.9, 2002, at the Clark County Health Care in Owen where he had resided since 1994.

Funeral services for Harald will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee. Reverend Bryan Anderson will officiate and burial will be in the Nazareth Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation with family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Harald Christensen was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Hutchinson, Minn., the son of Jacob and Magdalena Christensen. He graduated from Owen High School and was a longtime resident of Withee. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1967 after 41 years as a rural letter carrier out of the Owen and Withee Post Offices. He was an active member and leader of the state and national Rural Letter Carriers Association. Throughout his adult life he was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, the Withee Lions Club and the Owen Masonic Lodge for which he was recently recognized as a 70-year member.

He is lovingly survived by his son, Donald (Jackie) Christensen of Minneapolis; daughter, Elaine (Bob) Helberg of Winona, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Dane Christensen, Barry Christensen, Jennifer Bennett, Mike Helberg, Jennifer Bennett, Mike Helberg, Jarrod Englebretson, Jessica Weyer, Brad Helberg, and Jason Englebretson; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Margrete (John) Potocnik of Colby; son-in-law, Jimmie (Betty) Englebretson of Knapp; 16 nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dagmar Christensen on Jan. 9, 1997; and a daughter, Jeanne Englebretson.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Nazareth Lutheran Church or to the activity fund at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.
