Janet Lee Smith, the daughter of Mrs. Loretta Smith of Granton (Clark Co., Wis.), was named Miss Wisconsin Rural Electrification this week by the Wisconsin Electric Cooperative Association (WECZ) in Madison.

Janet was first-runner up in the statewide contest, which was held at the WECA Annual Meeting in May. She takes the place of Dawn Kochinski of Wyeville, who recently notified WECA of her intention to get married. WECA Miss contest rules state that the Miss Wisconsin RE candidate cannot be married.

As Miss Wisconsin Rural Electrification, Janet will participate in the national contest to be held at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) annual meeting in San Francisco next year. During her reign she will represent Wisconsin's thirty rural electric Cooperatives at many of the cooperative functions around the state. Miss Smith will also received a $300 scholarship.

A 1972 graduate of Granton Public High School, and a 1973 graduate of the Western Wisconsin Technical Institute, La Crosse. Janet recently became certified as a dental assistant. She is presently planning to continue her education at the Institute for an additional semester to study music and art.

Janet was the 1972 Miss Clark Rural Electrification and was sponsored in the statewide contest by Clark Electric Cooperative of Greenwood (Clark Co.).
