Shirley (McGhee) Wellman, age 58, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, surrounded by family at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Shirley was born on March 22, 1960, in Amherst, Ohio, to Hugh and Patricia McGhee. She graduated from Colby High School in 1978. After a short courtship she married Randy on April 27, 1979, and they had almost 40 years together. The couple resided in Colby until moving to Marshfield in December 2017.

Shirley worked as a seamstress out of her house and was employed at Magic Moments in Marshfield. She was an accomplished seamstress and completed prom and wedding dresses for many couples in the Colby area. She was also a merchandiser for over 15 years for a variety of companies. Randy and Shirley also welcomed thirty-four foster children into their family throughout the years.

Her children remember her as a loving, caring, compassionate mother to many who encouraged them to pursue their goals. She was an active and dedicated grandmother, who enjoyed attending various family activities and functions. She was a generous individual who loved helping others and was passionate about her poodles.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Randy Wellman of Marshfield; children, Jason (Anne) Wellman of Appleton, Kevin (Rachel) Wellman of Medford and Carrie (Scott) Ray of Menomonie; six grandchildren, Makenna, Brady, Cade, Tyler, Leah and Lucy; siblings, Bill (Debbie) McGhee of Colby, Susan Kelnhofer of Stratford, Patrick McGhee of Stratford, Bonnie (Wayne) Sazama of Colby, Annie Ashbrenner of Athens and Dan (Michelle) McGhee of Wausau.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Wellman.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at the American Legion Post 358, 233 East 2nd Street, Unity, WI 54488 from noon to 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley’s life.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at the House of the Dove.
