Marg-Patton, John Edward (9 March 1948 – 16 December 2018)

John Edward Marg-Patton, 70, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous 18-month battle with small cell lung cancer.

John was born March 9, 1948, in Ray, AZ, to John and Kathryn (Kipp) Patton and was the youngest of four children. He graduated from Ray High School before earning his bachelor degree in economics from Arizona State University. John was a devoted partner to his wife of 35 years, Ruth Marg-Patton. Through his accounting and tax business, he worked with many individuals and small businesses in the community. John was an active member of the New Brighton-Mounds View Rotary culminating in him serving as co-president. He served on the Christ the King Foundation Board, volunteered with Appalachia Service Project and fund-raiser for Community Partners with Youth.

His humor and caring nature will be missed. John is survived by his wife Ruth; their children: Carmen (Chad) Patton-Minder and Shawn Marg-Patton; sister: Kathy (Richard) Dick; and mother-in-law Rhoena Marg. He is further survived by his three step-grandchildren: Monique, Audrey and Elijah, and numerous nieces and nephews, and many other loving relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Louise Weston and Virginia Harvey; nephew Richard Harvey and father-in-law, Duane Marg.

John’s legacy lives on with his eyes having been donated to restore sight to two individuals and his body being used at the University of Minnesota Medical School for research and teaching.

John often said “No regrets. It’s been a great ride!”

A visitation with the family will begin at noon Friday, Dec. 29, 2018, including meditation music at 1:30 p.m., a celebration of life at 2 p.m. and a reception to follow at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1900 7th Street NW, new Brighton, MN.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations can be made in John’s name to the new Brighton-Mounds View Rotary.
