Gelhaus, Nicholas Arthur (30 JUL 1950 - ? MAR 1980)

Medford - A 29-year old Medford man is dead as the result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Taylor County coroner James Amo. The victim, Nicholas Arthur Gelhaus, died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at this home on 133N. Second St.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Rev. William Green officiating. Burial will be at Medford Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today at Hemer Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will be at 7:30 tonight.

Mr. Gelhaus was born here July 30, 1950, and attended Holy Rosary Grade School. In 1968, he graduated from Campion High School in Prairie du Chien and from 1968 to 1974 attended Marquette Liberal Arts and Dental School in Milwaukee.

He enlisted in the Army Aug. 20, 1975, serving until April 21, 1977. Residing here since, he has worked for Goessl Construction for a time. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Medford Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gelhaus, Medford; and 11 brothers and sisters, Mrs. James (Mary Pat) Hamm of Minneapolis, Mrs. Tony (Priscilla) Kovacik of Mequon, Mrs. Terry (Carol) Peterson of Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Leischer, Mrs. Dennis (Laura) Zuleger and Peter and Chuck Gelhaus, all of Medford, Mrs. Dan (Susan) Murphy of St. Paul, Minn., and Donna, Mark and Robert Gelhaus, all at home.

His mother, Lucille Harriet (Schweiso) Gelhaus, died Aug. 1, 1957.
