Berglund, Florence J. (8 OCT 1932 – 7 OCT 2018)


Loyal - FLORENCE J. BERGLUND, age 85, of Loyal, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the Clark County Living & Rehab Center in Owen, WI. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate, and burial will follow in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: John Rodrick Hayman, Rick Dietsche, Gary Rueth, Jackson Dietsche, Kent Smith and Charles Forss. Honorary pallbearer will be Hoyt Rueth. Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 4pm to 8pm, and again on Friday, from 10am until time of service.

Florence Jean Rodrick was born on October 8, 1932 in Northfield, MN, to C.J. "Joe" and Florence (nee Culver) Rodrick. She was raised and received her education in Northfield, graduating from high school in 1950. Florence was united in marriage to Robert E. Berglund on December 30, 1956 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, she and Bob moved to Turtle Lake, WI, where they resided for 11 years. In 1968, they purchased the Loyal Tribune and Spencer Record newspapers. In 1969, they purchased the Greenwood Gleaner newspaper and combined them to form the Tribune-Record-Gleaner, (TRG), which they operated until selling the business in 1998. Since retiring, they have enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Port Aransas, TX.

She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was past president of the Loyal Chamber of Commerce, belonged to the Loyal American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Golden Member of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association. Florence edited a cookbook for the newspaper association and was recognized with a Silent Bell award for her efforts to decorate the banquet halls for incoming presidents. She was also author of a column in the TRG, "You Got A Minute". She loved to cook and made the "breads" for Spanky's Run at the Loyal Corn Festival, for 21 years.

Florence will be dearly missed by her husband, Bob, of Loyal; three daughters: Jacklyn (Bob) Loos of Loyal, Susan (Mark) Heilman of Holmen, Michelle Berglund of Colby; one son: Mark (Wendy) Berglund of Medford; six grandchildren: Shelby (Gary) Rueth of Loyal, Stephanie (Rick) Dietsche of Loyal, Captain William Robert Hayman, MD of Seattle, WA, John Rodrick Hayman of Milwaukee, Morgan and Aidan Ball of Medford; seven great-grandchildren: Victoria of Marshfield, Savanna, Jackson and Saylor Dietsche of Loyal, Avery, Raelyn and Hoyt Rueth of Loyal; one brother: Joe (Jeri) Rodrick of Denver, CO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Daniel Rodrick; and three sisters: Rose Montgomery, Ida Weise and Rita Lace.
