Grabon, Walter (1 AUG 1897 – 26 OCT 1971)

Walter Grabon, 74, passed away at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley, on Tuesday, October 26, 1971. Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Church, Thorp, on Thursday, October 28th at ten a.m., with Reverend F. Brockman officiating. Interment was made in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Clarence Ruff, Delton Ebben, Jim Davies, Hank Nowobielski, Art Jacque, and Ed Harycki.

Walter was born August 1, 1897 in Poland. He lived in Stanley until April 1, 1927, when he moved to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), where he lived the rest of his life. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Bauernfeind, June 22, 1927 at St. Bernard’s Church, Thorp.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Walter James of Tomah, Wisconsin, and M-Sgt. Francis Grabon, at present is with the Air Force stationed in Thailand. Francis’ wife lives with his family in Savannah, Georgia. Also surviving are five grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Grabon of Chicago; and one sister, Mrs. An Juniewich, also of Chicago.
