Forsyth, Dorothy A. (Hennlich) (27 MAY 1935 - 18 JUL 2018)

Dorothy A. Forsyth, age 83, of Dodgeville, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born on May 27, 1935, in Holton, to Hattie and Joseph Hennlich. She grew up on a dairy farm in Dorchester where she met the love of her life, Robert; they raised four children together. Her family grew to include nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, for whom she had immense pride. She could be found cheering in the crowd for every sports game or school event, and travelled across the country to witness births, weddings and graduations. She was a constant warm presence in the lives of those she loved.

Her Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life and she remained deeply involved in her church community until the time of her passing. She was an avid volunteer at Upland Hills Nursing Home. Her house was a home for everyone—with a warm meal and full cookie jar for all who came. A 3-mile daily walker, rain or snow, she had a vigor for life that was paralleled only by the joy she took in her weekly visits to Tony’s Tap with friends. Her faith and compassion made richer all the lives she touched.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Patty) Forsyth, Sue (Joe) Vieth, Dan (Reneé) Forsyth and Pat (Steph) Forsyth; grandchildren, Jen (Todd) Gerber, Matt Vieth, Tiara (John) Calhoun, Aubree (Kyle) Forsyth-Moran, Erin, Chase, Ella, Olivia and Rylee Forsyth; great-grandchildren, David, Hannah and Elizabeth Gerber; brother, Jim (Pat) Hennlich; sisters, Joan Baker and Janice (Connie) Diesing; and a close group of dear friends and many extended family members not mentioned here.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and her brother, William Hennlich.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Monsignor Daniel Ganshert presided. Friends called from 2 p.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church. Burial was held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Dorchester Memorial South Cemetery in Dorchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Church in Dodgeville or Upland Hills Nursing Home are appreciated.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison for their compassionate care in the last days of her life.

Gorgen-McGinley and Ayers Funeral Home, Dodgeville, assisted the family.
