Melvin "Mel" Shea, 73, of Jump River, passed from this earth on Monday, May 14, 2018 under the care of the Palliative Care Team at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1944, to Wynona M. (Powers) and the late Elton "Bill" Shea. He grew up on a farm on Hwy M in the town of Donald. He attended Donald Grade School and graduated from Gilman High School in 1962. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps from July 2, 1962 and received an honorable discharge on April 21, 1965.

Mel was united in marriage to Carol (Meyer) on Aug. 12, 1966, a date which he felt gave him a better chance of remembering the anniversary and thus staying out of the dog house.
In his younger years, he supported his family by driving truck for long haul carriers. He later teamed up with his wife and they operated Carol's Permit Service Inc. for over 32 years providing compliance and legal guidance to fellow trucking companies. Mel and Carol then built their dream home on the banks of the Jump River, where they have enjoyed their retirement. Mel's hobbies included hunting, fishing, working in the woods and tinkering in his
toy box.

Mel is survived by his wife/girlfriend of 51-plus years, Carol; his sons, Michael (LeeAnn) of Crown Point, Ind. and William (Anna) of Humboldt, Iowa and his grandson, Eric of Pewaukee. He is further survived by his mother, Wynona of Ladysmith; his niece, Shelly Martine (Don Pelka) of Bartlett, Ill., his nephew, Dion (Sue) Meyer of Macedonia, Ohio and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Finally, Mel's four legged buddy, Grunt will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elton "Bill" Shea; his sister, Darlene Meyer; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Cora Powers and his paternal grandparents, Glen and Delia Shea.

The family would like to thank the Sheldon EMS Ambulance crew, the nurses at Marshfield Medical Center ICU Unit, Dr. Amanda Eilers for her compassion and understanding of the situation we were in, and the Palliative Care Team at Marshfield Medical Center.

A celebration of life will be held at the Jump River Community Center from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday May 26 with a prayer service at 1 p.m.
