Smart, Carol Jean (Marriage – 4 January 1975)

A home on Rt. 1 Dorchester, awaited Mr. and Mrs. Gerard John Staab who exchanged marriage vows January 4 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester, before the Rev. J. J. Burggraf. The 1 p.m. ceremony was followed by a reception at the Dorchester Memorial Hall.

Formerly Miss Carol Jean Smart, the new Mrs. Staab is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lea A. Smart. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Staab. All are of Rt.1 Dorchester.

Presented in marriage by her father, the bride appeared in a multi-tiered gown of Chantilly lace embellished with seed pearls. A Camelot headpiece held her organza and lace veil which swept into a long train. Yellow roses, lily of the valley and baby’s breath formed her bouquet.

Mrs. Daniel Froeba, Loyal, sister of the bride, was her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Terry Ludwig. West Bend, and Miss Bernice Smart, Dorchester, also sisters of the bride, and Mrs. Tom Poehnelt, Eagle, sister of the groom. Basket arrangements of yellow and orange flowers accented their gowns of deep green velvet.

Attending the groom were his brother, Aaron Staab, Marshfield, as bestman and Terry Ludwig, West Bend, Mark Staab, of Dorchester, another brother, and Tom Poehnelt, Eagle.

Ushers were Kenny Staab, Marshfield, brother of the groom, and Larry Smart, Stevens Point, brother of the bride.

Flower girls Julie Ludwig of West Bend, niece of the bride, and Shelly Poehnelt of Eagle, niece of the groom, were attired in long, yellow dresses.

The bride will be a 1975 graduate of Colby High School. The groom, a 1972 graduate of the same school, attended Mid-State Technical Institute, Wisconsin Rapids, for two years and received a diploma in the diesel and heavy equipment field. He is engaged in farming.

A wedding trip is planned for a later date.
