Susan E. Sterlinske, 63, Durand, Ill. died on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at home surrounded by family and close friends.

Sue was born on Feb. 19, 1955 in Ladysmith, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Patricia (Davis) Sterlinske. She attended school from kindergarten through seventh grade in Ladysmith.

She moved to Madison with her parents and attended school from eighth grade and graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in Madison in 1973. She graduated from UW-Whitewater with a BS in education in December 1978. She was employed by the Durand Community School District in January 1979 as a business education teacher until her retirement in 2016. She received her MS in curriculum and education from National Lewis University, Chicago, in 2000.

Sue loved teaching. She was a favorite to many of her students. Early in her career she was an assistant coach of girls’ volleyball from 1980-1987. After retirement, Sue taught junior high keyboarding and computer concepts. In 2014 she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and retired a second time in 2016 when she had additional complications from the disease.
Sue will be remembered for her joyful nature and her kindness to others especially children and beloved pets.

She is survived by her sisters Mary (Bill) Morgan of Ladysmith, Patricia (Greg) Solien of St. Cloud, Minn., Joan (Mark Cararra) Ehren of Los Lunas, N.M. and Louise Monson of Tony; her nieces and nephews, Terri (Mike) Reese of Waterloo, N.Y., Jim (Lori) Morgan of Island Lake, Ill., Julie (Brian) Guggenberger of Cold Springs, Minn., Steve Anderson of South Minneapolis, Minn., Stephanie Ehren (Thurston Graham) of Long Beach, Calif. and Jennifer Ehren (Tom O'Sullivan) of South Bend, Ind.; her grand-nieces and nephews; her special “sister,” Debbie Randall of Durand, Ill. and Debbie’s children and grandchildren, Sarah Balentyne and children, Miranda, Grant and Eva and Laura (Jim) and son, Aidan Baluch.

She was preceded in death by her parents and fiancé, David Randall.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 14 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 606 W Main Street, Durand, Ill. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 W Main St, Durand, Ill from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 13 with a scripture service to be held at 7:45 p.m.

Final resting place will be in Laona Township Cemetery. Cremation rites were accorded.
