Volhard, Donald A. (11 FEB 1937 - 21 FEB 2018)

Donald A. Volhard, Age 81, of Wausau formerly of Marathon, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Donald was born on February 11, 1937 in Wausau the son of Frank and Frances (Kurzejka) Volhard. He attended Marathon High School. Donald served his country in the United State Army in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1963. On July 9, 1960 he was united in marriage to Nancy Rasmussen at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar.

Donald enjoyed owning and operating his ginseng farm. He was an avid outdoors man and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don would take yearly trips to Canada where he spent time at Wilson’s Camp. His main passion was bowling. On April 16, 1964 he was the first person in Marathon to ever bowl a 300 game. He was a former proprietor of the Marathon Bowling Center.

He is survived by his five children: Laura (David) Knoeck of Marathon, Linda (Courtney) Untiedt of Edgar, Sandra Volhard of Wausau, Jennifer (Todd) Schiffmacher of Grand Island, NY and Richard Volhard of Wausau; eleven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one great grandson due in April; and his sister Anna Mae Buttke of Wausau. He is further survived by his companion cat “Morris” along with other relatives and many friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Nancy.

In accordance with Donald’s wishes, private family services will be held.

His arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home–Spencer.
