Goetsch, Rev. Martin C. (11 NOV 1896 – 11 JUN 1970)

Funeral services for the Rev. Martin C. Goetsch, 83, former pastor of the Green Grove and Curtiss Lutheran Church, were Saturday, June 13, 1970 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill.

The Rev. Mr. Goetsch died June 11, 1970 at Holy Cross Hospital in that city.

He was born November 11, 1886 in the town of Maine, Marathon County, Wisconsin, and was married March 30, 1913 in Helena, Montana to Alvina Abraham.

A 1907 graduate of Wittenberg Academy and of Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Ill., in in 1912. He was ordained in June of that year in Saskatchewan, Canada.

After accepting calls to Canadian parishes in Kimball and Eden Valley, Minn., he came to Clark County, Wisconsin in 1922 to serve the North Green Grove and Curtiss parish for 27 years. In 1941, South Green Grove was added to the parish.

Rev. Goetsch also served Cumberland and Collingwood parish in Barron County until 1954, when he retired to live in Menomonie. There he was a vacancy pastor at Glenwood City and Boyceville.

In 1957 he moved to Merrill and served vacancies at Immanuel Lutheran Church, route 4, Merrill, Deebrook and Elcho, and at St. Matthew's Church near Merrill.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Adeline, wife of Rev. Lloyd Lambert, La Crosse, and a son, Harold Goetsch, Manitowoc; a brother, Carl Goetsch of Wausau, and five grandchildren.
