Jolivette, Richard “Rick” (7 JAN 1924 - 9 FEB 2018)

Richard “Rick” Jolivette, 94, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., passed away on February 9, 2018, with his family at his side.

Rick was born on Jan. 7, 1924, in Loyal, and grew up in Abbotsford. During World War II, he was a member of the 232nd Infantry, 42nd Rainbow Division. His company was captured by the Germans in January 1945. They were held in a stalag near Dresden until May of that year, when they were released from their captors, who hoped to gain favor with the advancing Russian army. Rick received a Purple Heart for afflictions resulting from his captivity.

Back at home, Rick attended the UW School of Pharmacy, where he met his beautiful wife, Virginia “Ginny”. The two graduated and married in 1948, and moved to Phoenix in 1950.

Rick’s career as a pharmacist included positions with Upjohn, Park Central Pharmacy, Thrifty Drug Store, and Skaggs Drug Store. After retirement, he and Ginny built a home in Fountain Hills, and traveled extensively. Rick was an avid golfer. He and Ginny also enjoyed gambling in Laughlin and at Fort McDowell.

He is survived by his wife, Ginny; daughters, Stephanie (Mike) and Renee (Skip); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Eda Jolivette; and siblings, Arthur Jolivette, June Carlson, Betty Haakenson, Carol Paulson and Wayne Jolivette. He will always be remembered for his love of nature and sense of humor, and his loyalty to his family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Fountain View Village who showed him so much love and caring, particularly in the final days of his life.

A memorial service will be held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, followed by entombment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix. Donations in Rick’s memory can be made to AMVETS or any veterans’ service organization.
