Truckey, Roger L. (4 MAY 1942 – 31 JAN 2018)

Roger L. Truckey, age 75, of Thorp, passed away at Dove Healthcare West, in Eau Claire, on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, in Thorp. Bishop Jeff Haines and Fr. James Lobacz of Milwaukee officiated, and burial followed in New St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery
.
Pallbearers were Rick Truckey, Ricky Truckey, Dean Lis, Jason Moore f Joseph Kopacz, and Bernard Budzinski. Visitation was held at the church on Monday, from 10 a.m. until time of Mass, with a 10:15 a.m. Knights of Columbus rosary service.

Roger Louis Truckey was born on May 4, 1942, in Thorp, WI, to Louis and Anna (Twarowski) Truckey. He was raised and received his education in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1960. He then attended Holy Cross Seminary in La Crosse, and later studied at Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, WI. After completing his studies, Roger worked part-time for florists in Thorp and Milwaukee. Roger then worked at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, in Milwaukee, as a Sacristan and custodian from 1986 to 2015. His eye for detail and kindness were greatly appreciated by many anxious brides and petrified grooms. As a Sacristan, he took great pride in the linens, vestments, candles and flowers that enhanced ceremonies under his care. In the Cathedral parish he was known for his joyful spirit and generosity toward those in need. He received the Archbishop's Vatican II Award for Service in Liturgy in 2005.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace Council #4634 of Thorp, and he was also a member of the Krakowiak Polish Folk Dancers.

Roger is survived by one brother, Arnold Truckey (Sue Gilbertson) of Seymour, WI; his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Truckey of Thorp; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joseph A. Truckey, on December 18, 2008; and one nephew, Randy J. Truckey on September 5, 2015.
