Centennial celebration planned for Dorchester
Beginning with an “Old-Fashioned” worship service in February, and a special service or event planned for each of the following months through September, St. Peter Church at Dorchester will celebrate their 100th anniversary commemorating the organization of the congregation in 1880.
Officially organized in September of that year, St. Peter members are making plans for September 19, 20 and 21 for when the formal celebration will be observed. A banquet, special music and three services are planned for the three day celebration.
Speakers during that weekend will be North Wisconsin District president of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the Rev. Henry Simon of Wausau; the Rev. Donald Sprengler of Antigo; the Rev. Ed Olson, Stetsonville; the Rev. Melvin Dake, Stevens Point; and the Rev. Victor Brandt of Palos Heights, Ill.
Appointed in 1978, and holding meetings during that time, are the following Centennial Committee members; Clyde Broeske, chairman; Marietta Stevens, secretary; Don Sauter, Edith Ploeckelman, Camila Tischendorf, Kathy Schumacher, Keith Tischendorf, Beaulah Fischer and the Rev. Roland Golz. The motto they have chosen for this 1980 centennial year is: Remembering, Rejoicing, Renewing.
A history is being compiled and is expected to go to the printers by late winter. Pictures of all organization members are planned for spring.
