Poehnelt, Duane J. (23 FEB 1951 – 1 DEC 2017)

DUANE J. POEHNELT, age 66, of Loyal, peacefully passed away at home on Friday, December 1, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal, with Father Steve Brice officiating. Interment will take place in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday, from 9:30 AM until time of service.

Duane John Poehnelt was born on February 23, 1951 in Medford, WI, the son of Joseph and Irene (née Wiersgalla) Poehnelt. Duane moved with his family to Loyal, WI at the age of three. He attended St. Anthony Catholic School and Loyal Public School, graduating from Loyal High School in 1969. Duane started working for Loyal Oil Company at the age of 18, which his father started in 1954. He was united in marriage to Julie A. Weisheipl on June 23, 1984 at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Eau Claire, WI. Duane and Julie purchased Loyal Oil from his parents in 1987. They sold the business to their daughter, Kaila, and son-in-law, Kyle, on June 1, 2016 after 29 years of ownership.

Duane had many interests, but especially loved downhill skiing, going on several ski trips with his buddies, snowmobiling, deer hunting, going to his woods, loved all of his dogs over the years, but German Shepherds were his favorite, NASCAR racing, going to the coffee shop every morning for over 30 years, and most of all spending time with family and his two granddaughters, Kessa and Kindyn. He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Duane will be dearly missed by his wife of 33 years, Julie; his daughter: Kaila (Kyle) Fitzl of Loyal and their two daughters, Kessa and Kindyn; his siblings: Sharon (Vern) Volovsek of Rice Lake, WI, Sandy Nestler of Cordova, TN, Renee Lebkicker of Severn, MD, Jerry (Joan) Poehnelt of Eagle, WI, Dean (Shirley) Poehnelt of Chester Gap, VA, Pat (Ted) Zvolena of Loyal, Mike (Tiki) Poehnelt of DeForest, WI, Bonnie Duda of Phoenix, AZ, Terri (Tony) Inhof of Hartland, WI, Darla (Alan) Helvig of Glendale, AZ; his mother-in-law: Joanne Weisheipl of Sun City West, AZ; in-laws: Greg (Sandy) Weisheipl of The Villages, FL, Lisa (Dan) Brantmeyer of Mint Hill, NC, Tim Weisheipl of Braselton, GA, Tom Weisheipl of Scottsdale, AZ; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Darrel Poehnelt, in infancy; niece and goddaughter: Dawn Lebkicker; brothers-in-law: Russ Lebkicker and Byron Nestler; sister-in-law: Linda Poehnelt; and father-in-law: Tony Weisheipl.

Duane's family would like to thank all of their family and friends for the frequent visits, taking him for drives, helping with projects around the house and all of their support during his time of illness, and all throughout his lifetime. You have all been a Blessing!

In lieu of flowers, Duane requested donations be made in his name to St. Anthony Catholic Church or Little Angels Child Care at St. Anthony Parish.
