Palmer, Ellen G. (6 May 1898 – 15 September 1974)

A retired school teacher, Mrs. Fred (Ellen G.) Palmer, 76, of Rt. 3 Neillsville, died Sunday September15, at Memorial Hospital following an apparent heart attack. Funeral services were to be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Neillsville Masonic Temple with the Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ and members of the Order of the Eastern Star officiating. Arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Mrs. Palmer, the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Plummer) Galster, was born May 6, 1898, at Alma Center and attended elementary schools there. She was a graduate of Hixton High School and of the Eau Claire Normal School.

Following her marriage to Fred G. Palmer, which took place September 10, 1919, in Alma Center, the couple moved to Chicago, Il., where she attended the Cultural Review School and the Chicago Normal School. She taught in Chicago for 25 years before they moved to the Neillsville area. Upon returning to Wisconsin, Mrs. Palmer attended Eau Claire State College, then taught in the Augusta, Fall Creek, Riverside, Silver Crest, Washburn, Roder, and Fairchild schools before retiring in 1968.

She was a member of Carmi Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star, served as worthy matron in 1958 and 1973, and was serving as associate matron at the time of her death.

Mrs. Palmer is survived by her husband.
