Annala, Miriam “Mikki” (Manninen) (28 FEB 1918 - 9 AUG 2007)

Miriam “Mikki” Annala, 89, Westboro, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, while in palliative care.

The former Miriam Manninen was born February 28, 1918 on the family homestead in Westboro, to the late Henry and Maria (Waytennen) Manninen. She attended Forest Knoll Graded School and worked on the family farm. On November 2, 1934 in Brantwood, she married Walter Annala, who preceded her in death on August 19, 1969.

She was employed at Gem Products for 25 years as a box toe machinist as well as a sewing machine operator. She also assisted her husband on their dairy farm, made pulp together and cut Christmas trees. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed rosemaling, baking, especially bread and biscuits, gardening, sewing and quilting.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marian (Tom) Chyllo; son-in-law, George Schlage; two daughters-in-law, Sophie Annala and Diane Annala; three brothers, Henry (Edna), Joseph (Nellie) and David Manninen; and three sisters, Hannah (Victor) Wayrenen, Geraldine (Carl) Kalendar and Mary (Lou) Bergeron.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 10 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rib Lake, with Rev. Roger Sloan officiating. Interment will be at Leavitt Creek Cemetery in the Town of Hill (Price County, WI).

Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home in Rib Lake, and at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
