Janda, Robert J. (3 NOV 1903 – 04 JUL 1986)

ABBOTSFORD – Robert J. Janda, 82, Abbotsford, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice Care Unit, where he was admitted June 27, 1986. He had been in ill health since March 1979.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Abbotsford, July 12. The Rev. Emil Hodnik will officiated. Burial will be in Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Janda was born November 3, 1903, in Mankato, Minn., to Louis and Mary (Lamm) Janda. He graduated from Stillwater High School and attended the University of Minnesota and Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.

He married Marcella Butzer May 27, 1929, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. She survives.

They moved to Abbotsford in March 1934, where they owned and operated the Abbotsford Tribune, a weekly newspaper and commercial printing business. Their son, Louis, purchased the newspaper January 1, 1961. Mr. Janda retired from the printing business in 1970.

He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters, and a former member of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce and Abbotsford Sportsmen's Club.

Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughter, Martha Steffes, Cudahy, and Ann Larson, Stevens Point; one son, Louis, Green Bay; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katharine Janda, Stillwater, and Eleanor Roche, West Allis.

He was predeceased by his parented, three brothers and five sisters.
