Tieman, Gene I. (26 JUL 1949 - 14 AUG 2017)

Gene I. Tieman, 68, Edgar, passed away at his home on August 14, 2017. He was born on July 26, 1949 in Pulaski, Indiana, son of the late Elgin and Florene (Perwitz) Tieman.

He graduated from Marathon High School in 1968. He was a veteran of the United States Army, enlisting in 1970 and serving his country honorably for two years during the Vietnam war, receiving two purple hearts. He married his best friend, Laurie Wielock, on February 16, 1990 in Wausau. Gene worked at Marathon Cheese for 45 years.

Gene enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed being at home with his wife, Laurie, helping her in the garden, relaxing with their cats, mowing lawn with his large mower and tinkering with many different things. He enjoyed the challenge of redesigning things to “make them better” and refinishing furniture. He enjoyed turkey and deer hunting and teaching others how to hunt.

Gene was most happy on the water with a fishing pole and his trophy wife. He spent many hours on the water also with his fishing buddy - his father-in-law, George Wielock. He spent many hours creating custom fishing poles and lures, which he gave to his kids, grandkids and others.

Survivors include his wife, Laurie Tieman, sons Brian (Nicole) Tieman, Michael Tieman and Steve Tieman, daughter Krystal Tieman (fiancé Zack Jones), and grandchildren Vanessa, Natalie, James and Theo, all of Wausau. He is also survived by his father-in-law George Wielock, Marathon, sisters-in-law Shirley (David) Grant, Mesa, AZ, Lynn (Anthony) Oechsner, Lomira, WI, Karen (Wayne) Rajek, Wausau, and brothers-in-law Greg (Sandy) Wielock, Wausau, Lyle Lemmer, Marathon and David Karlen, Tucson, AZ and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Karlen and Rosetta Lemmer, brother Lewis Tieman, mother-in-law Phyllis Wielock, and sister-in-law Bonny Rajek.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday August 19, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Town of Cassel, Marathon with visitation at 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Rev. Felix Tigoy will preside. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion, Alois Dreikosen Post 469, Marathon, following services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gene’s family to be donated to a charity of their choice.
