David F. Sauder, 77, of Colby, passed away on July 9, 2017, at his residence in the Town of Colby.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2017, at the Colby Mennonite Church in the Town of Colby. Bishop Nelson Newswanger, Carl Hoover, James Reiff, Mahlon Shirk and Martin Zimmerman will preside. Interment will be held in the Colby Mennonite Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Hoover, Mathew Hoover, Chester Sauder, Allen Sauder, John Sauder and Jason Sauder. Family and friends are welcome from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at W1561 County Road N, Colby.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.

David was born on Oct. 1, 1939, the son of Samuel N. and Fannie H. (High) Sauder in Caernarvon Township. Lancaster County Pa. He attended the Caernarvon Elementary School until eighth grade. David married Esther S. Nolt on Dec. 31, 1961, in Lancaster County. They farmed in Lancaster County until April 4, 2011, moving to Colby. David was a member of Colby Mennonite Church (Groffdale Conference).

David is survived by his wife Esther; children and grandchildren Mary (Paul) Hoover and their sons Nathaniel and Matthew (Paul died Apr 16 1988) and Mary married Melvin Martin and their children, Anthony, Katie, Miriam, Jethro and Earl David; Earl (Martha) Sauder and their children, Nancy, Chester, Clinton, Norma, David, Anna Ruth and stillborn son; Wilma (Harry Leinbach and their children, Sara, Lawrence, Janette, Paul David, Cleason, Lucinda, Christian, Jeremiah, John Aaron, Mary Esther and Phillip; Martha (died March 14, 2007) Tim Lane and their son, Jesse David; Melvin (Elsie) Sauder and their children, Carolyn, Joanna, Allen, Lamar, Wayne, Stephen, Matthew, Michael (Stillborn), Amanda and Jeremy; Roy (Darlene) Sauder and their children, Lucille, Rhoda, John, Floyd, Anne, Wilson, Roy Jr., Kristine, Kathleen, Amy and Jamin; Cleason (Marie) Sauder and their children, Jason, Marilyn, Rachel, Keith, Jolene, Janice, Darren, LuAnne, Linford, Sara and Carson; and 31 great grandchildren.

David is further survived by seven sisters and one brother, Anna Martin, Lydia Leid, Mary Nolt, Ella (Harvey) Newswanger, Edna (David Zimmerman), Edith (Daniel) Newswanger, Samuel (Bertha) Sauder and Emma (John) Zimmerman.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Amos Martin, Jonas Nolt and Elmer Leid.
