Hesse, Beverly Faye (Smith) (2 APR 1931 - 4 MAY 2017)

On Thursday, May 4, 2017, Beverly peacefully joined her husband, the love of her life, Dr. S.F. Hesse, in heaven.

Bevery was born in Hudson, Iowa, on April 2, 1931, to Elliot and Ercell (Eliott) Smith. She was destined for success, great love, and adventure. As the epitome of grace, class and quiet strength, our mother was always loving, supportive and patient, allowing us to grow and explore our lives with courage. Beverly was known as ‘Loverly’ in school and was surrounded by a loyal group of friends from elementary through high school, thereafter graduated from Iowa Teacher’s College.

Mom and Dad had a short courtship of nine months in Hudson, Iowa, and married on Dec. 22, 1961, in Medford. For the next 36 years they enjoyed life together in Rib Lake, as state archer champions, fishing, mink ranching, traveling to jewelry shows from California to New York, enjoyed several trips to Europe and playing bridge with friends.

She was a medical coder in Dad’s office, the Rib Lake Clinic, served on the Rib Lake School Board, followed by years on the State Technical College Board where she traveled to meetings across the country. She was a botanist who knew every flower in the woods behind our house, an ornithologist who could name every bird outside the patio window, an incredible home-chef, a pianist who could sit down and dazzle the ivories at the drop of a hat and always a singer, from her opera days before she married.

Her thirst for life and accomplishment was an inspiration to so many as she received her associate’s degree in medical coding from North-Central Technical College in 1993, at the age of 63! After a lifetime in Rib Lake, another new adventure came when she and Dad retired and moved to Colorado in late October, 1997. There she met many friends and spent most of her time with her grandbabies.

Bev is survived by her three children; daughter, Susan F. (Steve) Brumm of Cottage Grove, with their son, Steven Siegfried (8); son, Eric E. Hesse of Mosinee; and daughter, Julie M. Tollis (and partner Alan Cain) of Colorado Springs, Colo., with their daughters, Peyton Nichole (12), Eliot Reece (10) and Addison Cain (11).

Surviving as well are Bev’s three brothers and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Marlys Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Harlon and Mary Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Susan Smith, who remember her lovingly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
