The Clark County Association for Home and Community Education (HCE) held its Spring County Day April 8 at the CART Center in Neillsville. Nearly 50 ladies attended, including some guests. They heard reports from the various committees. They also chose to attend one of three mini-sessions, including making soap from goat’s milk, making their own recycled tote bags, or listening to someone who had the experience of international adoption. The main speaker was Niki Michalak who spoke on her recent trip to Peru.

In conjunction with the event, women were invited to participate in the Cultural Arts Show. Blue ribbon winners are able to enter the Cultural Arts contest at the annual HCE Conference, which will be held this September in Wisconsin Dells. They include Cindy Craig, photography; Joan Trunkel, Iris folding cards and also a recycled craft. Debra Ortner entered a hand-quilted bed quilt, Lois Becker, a quilted table runner, Debra Gries a machine-quilted bed quilt, a machine-quilted lap quilt, and also a wall hanging.

Winners from Neillsville included Mary Nauertz who entered a water-color painting, Kathleen Watson, a tote bag, and Laurie Carlson a yoga mat. Also participating were Diane Schuette who entered an essay and Barbara James who entered the Bonus Category using the theme for the conference this year, “Cheers for HCE.”
