Gorney, Agnes G. (Brost) (15 SEP 1920 - 9 APR 2017)

Agnes G. Gorney, age 96, of Hayward, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

Agnes Gertrude was born on Sept. 15, 1920 in Medford, the daughter of Anton and Emma (Sackmann) Brost. She was raised in Medford and graduated from high school there in 1938.

Agnes moved to Milwaukee and worked in a factory putting bomb parts together during World War II. While attending a family wedding in Biloxi, Miss., she met George Gorney. On Feb. 6, 1946, Agnes was joined in marriage to George in Medford. Agnes and George moved to Hayward, where she was busy raising their seven children. Agnes enjoyed gardening, baking and being with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Sawyer County ARC.

Agnes is survived by her seven children, Paul (Marilynn) Gorney, Phyllis (Dan Ross) Lorenzo, Mary (Tom) Shafarik, Joan (Guy) Long, Alice Gorney, Margie (Dale) Schull and Carol Gorney; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Andy (Lois) Brost of Medford and Ray (Arlene) Brost of Janesville; one sister, Jenny Schmit of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; three sisters and six brothers.
In keeping with Agnes’ wishes, a private family mass of Christian burial will be held for her.

Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
