Thompson, Lester M. (14 AUG 1926 - 22 AUG 2010)

Lester M. Thompson, 84, of W8146 Center Ave., Medford, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2010, at his residence in the township of Hammel under the loving care of his family and Hope Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 26 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford, with Pastor James Krueger officiating. Interment will follow at Molitor Catholic Cemetery, Township of Molitor, where there will be graveside military rites performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team of which Lester was a past member.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Molly, Gus, Zach & Max Wiedenhoeft; Nephews-John Paulson & Gary Gehrig.

Visitation will be at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford from 4-7 PM Wednesday, August 25 and also at church 9:30 AM until time of services at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 26.

Lester was born on August 14, 1926 at Medford, WI, to Emeal Verner and Elsie Elizabeth (Johnson) Thompson. He attended a Town of Molitor elementary school, and he attended Medford High School.

On June 21, 1952, he was married to Darlene (Gehrig), at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford. She survives.

Lester was a US Army veteran of the Korean War having served from 1946-1947. He worked for Neuendorf Trucking in Madison from 1951-1952. Then they farmed in the town of Hammel for many years. While farming he worked for the Taylor Co. Highway Dept., P.C. Kaiser Construction, James Peterson & Sons Construction, Neuendorf Transportation, and ANR Trucking in Medford for periods of time as a truck driver for a total of 37 years of truck driving. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, ATV riding, his grandchildren, family picnics, eating in town, picking his raspberries, and helping his son Scott build things. He was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford; and a 50 year member of Landua-Jensen American Legion Post #147, Medford.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Gehrig) Thompson, town of Hammel; children Sandra Thompson of the town of Hammel and Darla (Brad) Wiedenhoeft, of Strum, WI; and Scott Thompson, of the town of Hammel; grandchildren Gus, Zach, Max & Molly Wiedenhoeft.

Lester is also survived by siblings, Luverne (Lyle) Huebner of Mondovi, Rosalie (Norbert) Brost of Medford, Darlene Barker of Harahan, LA, Betty (Richard) Lekie of Medford & Carol (Pat) Meyer of Medford; and a brother-Robert (Sharyn) Thompson of Medford.

He is predeceased by his parents, Emeal Verner and Elsie Elizabeth (Johnson) Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be given to the family for a future designation.
