Ertl, Edwin E. (13 MAR 1918 – 07 JAN 1972)

Funeral services for Edwin E. Ertl, 53, of Spencer, were held Monday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Ertl died Friday in the family home garage of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, where he had been working on the transmission of his car.

The Rev. William Ruhbusch, Trinity pastor, officiated at the service. Pallbearers were Emil Luepke, John Orgish, Gerald Morrison, Jeffery Pernsteiner, Dennis Ertl, and Ronnie Ertl. Mrs. Karin Hanson sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Let Me Be Thine Forever," accompanied by Mrs. Arnold Bruesewitz at the organ. Burial was made in the West Spencer Cemetery.

Edwin Ertl was born March 13, 1918 in the town of Brighton (Marathon Co., Wis.), and received his education in the Parette School near Spencer. He was married to Evelyn Schoengrund on June 1, 1938, at North Spencer. The couple farmed in Loyal, Stratford, Curtiss, and the Spencer area until 1954, when they moved into the village of Spencer. He had been employed for nine years at the Dairy Belt, now Land O' Lakes, Inc. Cheese Division, and the past nine years at Pathfinder Mobile Homes. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry Ertl, a student at He (?) Institute, Appleton; three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Darlene) Malerhafter, Fremont; Mrs. Dennis (Carol) Huber, Elkhart, Indiana; and Mrs. Dale (Shirley) Knutson, Appleton; four grandchildren; seven sisters, Mrs. Theresa Singstock and Mrs. James Morrison, both of Marshfield; Mrs. Glen Clouse, Loyal; Mrs. Harlyn Kloke, Schofield; Mrs. Elmer Jewett, Santa Paula, California; Mrs. Franklin Hebert, Gurnee, Illinois; and Mrs. Bernard Pernsteiner, Medford; and five brothers, Henry, Unity; Arnold, Racine; Raymond, Loyal; William, Marshfield, and Walter, Adrian, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by a brother and his parents.
