A Citizen of Three Centuries

“The best thing is that I can still laugh,” said Mrs. Lydia Revie on the eve of her 100th birthday earlier this week.

“If you can’t joke, you might as well not be living anyway,” she added during an interview in her Dorchester apartment.

When the new millennium arrives this week, Mrs. Revie will be one of the very few people who can make claim to living in three different centuries. She was born in 1899, was guest honor at a birthday party Tuesday, and will greet the 21st century along with the rest of the youngsters.

Although 100 years of her life are in the past, Mrs. Revie is not living there. She like to keep up on the daily news and weather, still enjoys her own home cooking and is a little worried about Y2K.

“I am thinking more about that,” she says in her apartment she has taken care of alone since her husband Frank died 15 years ago. “I think it is overblown on TV. There is too much information coming out on it, but I follow all that stuff.”

Mrs. Revie also like to watch Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, but doesn’t spend her time glued to the TV.

“I don’t have time for it. I’m busy all day,” she said.
