Raether, Mr./Mrs. Herman (Gold – 10 AUG 1968)

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Raether of Gilman recently marked their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They observed the event, Sunday, August 11, 1968 with an open house reception from 2 to 6 p.m. at Koolmo Ballroom, Gilman, where supper was served to approximately 200 friends and relatives. The honored couple, along with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Raether, and children Wayne and Diane of Gilman, their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rolland and children, Bruce and Bonnie, of Stanley, Rev. and Mrs. E.L. Wendling of Sheldon, Rev. and Mrs. Robert Olson of Thorp, and 45 immediate family members were served a buffet noon dinner by Mrs. Lottie Lis.

The attractively decorated hall was centered with a beautiful anniversary cake made by Mrs. Alice Demuth. The cake was cut by the couple's daughter, Mrs. Shirley Rolland, and served by granddaughters, Bonnie Rolland an Diane Raether.

Mr. Herman Raether, son of Carl and Caroline Raether of Wyandotte, Michigan, and his wife, the former Edith L. Brenner, daughter of Andrew and Alma Brenner of Thorp, were united in marriage August 10, 1918, at Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), with Rev. Laabs officiating.

After their marriage the couple lived in Wyandotte, Michigan for about six months before returning to Wisconsin, where they were employed in cheese making in the Stanley, Bellinger and Boyd areas from 1919 to 1938. In May 1938 they moved to a farm in the town of Aurora (Chippewa Co., Wis.), where they now reside. The farm was sold in 1960 to their won, who has since enlarge the acreage.

Among the guests was George Brenner, Loyal, a member of the original wedding party. The other attendant, Susie Ruesch Cords, Alpine, Arizona, was unable to attend.

Other relatives and friends attended from Milwaukee, Thorp, Stanley, Cadott, Cornell, Boyd, Holcombe, Hannibal, Gilman, Bloomer, Sheldon, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Withee, Rib Lake, Portage, Greenwood, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Michigan and Kentucky.

Mr. and Mrs. Raether received many cards, lovely gifts and a large purse of money.
