Laufenberg, Dorothy A. (26 September 1932 – 3 November 2016)

Dorothy A. Laufenberg, 84, of Alma Center passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at her home, while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice, Black River Falls. She was born Sept. 26, 1932, to Tony and Georgia (Gillis) Mayer of Humbird, Wisconsin.

Dorothy was part of the first graduating class of Lincoln High School, class of 1950.

She was united in marriage to Bernard J. Laufenberg, son of Godfrey and Octavia (Ruth) Laufenberg of Alma Center, Aug. 25, 1951, at Fairview Catholic Church, Humbird.

Dorothy was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Alter Society, Catholic Family PR, and director. She worked at the election and stayed home to help on the farm and raise her children.

Dorothy enjoyed bowling, working in her garden, flowers, baking, canning, playing cards, attending school activities, watching her sports, sewing warm mittens, and doing some traveling.

Dorothy and Bernard moved into the village of Alma Center in 1990 upon retirement.

She is survived by her children: Cathy Abendroth of Holmen, Michael (Debie) Laufenberg of Hixton, James (Beth) Laufenberg of Black River Falls, Theresa (Randy) Gilmour of Warrens, Caroline (Allen) Simonson of Humbird, Bernard (Patricia) Laufenberg of Hixton, Peter (Jo Ann) Laufenberg of Alma Center, Annie Oliver of Alma Center, David (Tara) Laufenberg of Alma Center, Duane (Pam) Laufenberg of Alma Center, Mary (Eric) Frazee of Fairchild, George (Tia) Laufenberg of Hixton and Nicole Laufenberg of Racine; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sisters: Louise Genteman, Marie (Bernard Kaiser, Lorraine (Jeff) Rayhorn; sister-in-law, Donna Mayer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bernard, Jan. 8, 2014; daughter Rose; granddaughter Kari; parents Tony and Georgia; both grandparents; son-in-law John Abendroth; brothers: Anthony, and Norman; niece Susie Genteman; brother-in-law Bill Genteman.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Alma Center. Father Emmanuel Famiyeh officiated. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Alma Center.

Family and friends were invited for visitation Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, from 4 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Alma Center, and again Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.

Memorials may be given to Black River Memorial Hospice, 711 W. Adams St., Black River Falls, WI 54615.

Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home of Hixton, assisted the family with arrangements.
