The Colby High School Class of 1924 held their 45th reunion at the Zion Lutheran
Church Saturday, May 31, 1969.
A total of 16 of the 26 graduates were present. Of these 26 graduates, three
have died, Lydia Kirchoefer, Elizabeth (Wilde) Carroll, and Alma Luchterhand.
The banquet was served by the Zion Lutheran Sewing Circle.
Master of Ceremonies for the program was Mrs. John Coates, the former Irma
Heintz. Prizes were awarded to the one coming the greatest distance, Arthur
Kersten, who came from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the second greatest distance,
Frederick Frome of Little Marais, Minn.; the largest family, Ruth Pokallus of
Sister Bay with five children, and Rev. Ambrose Bandow of Friendship, also with
five children; married the longest, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Winkel of Greenwood;
largest waistline, Laurence Mueller of Conrath; least amount of hair, Emil
Luchterhand of Unity, and most grandchildren, Mrs. Margaret (Rein) Olson of
Wausau.
Attending the reunion were Rev. Ambrose Bandow of Friendship; Frederick Frome of
Little Marais, Minn.; Irma (Heintz) Coates of Colby; Arthur Kersten, Sioux
Falls, S.D.; Emil Luchterhand of Unity; Helen (Mantor) Hurlbut of Hales Corners;
Laurence Mueller of Conrath; Ruth (Pokallus) Logerquist of Sister Bay; Margaret
(Rein) Olson of Wausau; Irene (Roth) Danielson of Abbotsford; Dr. Frank Sazama,
Chippewa Falls; Erma (Schultz) Romanik of Milwaukee; Evelyn (Tesmer) Biesecker
of La Crosse; Ervin Weller of Marshfield, Ray Winkel of Greenwood and Donald
Zillman of Eau Claire.
Also present were Miss Ruth Costello of Fond du Lac, a former teacher of the
Class. Mrs. Harry Bender of Colby, the wife of a former teacher and
administrator, also attended.
Following the reunion, coffee was served at the John Coates residence at
Cherokee.
The arrangements for the reunion were under the direction of Mrs. Evelyn
Biesecker of La Cross and Mrs. Irma Coates of Colby.
