Vesel, Raymond L. (27 FEB 1927 – 13 NOV 2016)

Raymond L. Vesel, 89, rural Sterling, Ill., formerly of Greenwood, died on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at home, surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Nov. 18, at St. Mary Chapel in Sterling. Rev. James Keenan officiated.

Raymond Vesel was born on Feb. 27, 1927, in Greenwood, the son of John and Margaret (nee Schutte) Vesel. He married Delores Weyneth in 1952 in Wausau. Raymond was a U.S. Navy veteran serving proudly in World War II as a Navy helmsman. He was employed most of his adult life by Metal Spinners Inc., where he rose from the shop floor to become plant superintendent in Milwaukee and then transferring to Sterling, Ill. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, singing barbershop, working in his yard, and fixing things. He could be found doing many projects of some sort around the house. Most of all Raymond loved his family and was very proud of his Slovenian heritage.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Delores, of Sterling; his daughters, Angela Ferber of New York, N.Y., Michelle (Jose “Tony”) Salazar of Moline, Ill., Roberta Conrad of Oshkosh, Pamela (Alan) Beuthin of Colgate, and Nicole Vesel Hibbard of Sterling; a son, Stewart (Donna) Vesel of Sterling; a brother, Robert (Vivian) Vesel of Greenwood; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Vesel, Bernard Vesel and Charles Vesel; two sisters, Margaret Brown and Josephine Sowieja; and a son-in-law, Charles Conrad.
