Shewczyk, Magdalene "Mitzie" (Komanec) (8 FEB 1918 - 25 NOV 2016)

Magdalene "Mitzie" Shewczyk, 98 of Gilman, died Friday, November 25, 2016 at Miller Care in Thorp under Mayo Hospice.

Funeral services will be at 11:30AM on Wednesday, November 30th at SS’s Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father Madanu Lourdu Raju officiating.

Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery-Gilman.

Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until time of service Wednesday at the church.

Her children, Betty Metz of Appleton; Nancy (Larry) Dietzler of Salt Lake City, UT; Dave (Barb) Shewczyk of Lublin; Dennis Shewczyk of Gilman; ten grandchildren, Tammy Henrichs, Tina Dahl, Mike and Marc Metz, Torie Walters, Kristin Dietzler, Amy, Derek, Barry and Larisa Shewczyk; thirteen great-grandchildren, Taryn, Alan, Morgan, Trevor, Emily, Elizabeth, Hannah, Sophie, Madison, Sydney, Piper, Yohann and Keaby.

Plombon Funeral Service-Gilman assisted the family.

Magdalene Louise “Mitzie” Shewczyk, 98 of Gilman, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Miller Alternative Care-Thorp.

The funeral mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father Madanu Lourdu Raju officiating.

Her grandchildren will act as pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Meadowbrook cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service Wednesday at the Church with a 9:45 AM parish rosary.

Magdalene was born on February 8, 1918 in Gilman the daughter of the late John and Magdalena (Hrabos) Komanec.

She grew up in Gilman and was a graduate of Gilman High School, Taylor County Normal School and UW Eau Claire where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. Mitzie entered the teaching profession teaching at one room schools; Bellinger, Perkinstown, Forest Lake and Polly.

On June 4, 1939, she was united in marriage to Harry Shewczyk in Lublin at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church. The couple resided in Lublin for three years and then moved to the Gilman
area where they began farming.

Mitzie continued to pursue her teaching career in Gilman School District. Her teaching years brought her great joy. Many of her students kept in touch with her through the years. She truly loved her family, and looked forward to the times when all could be together. Mitzie always had the coffee pot on, a cookie in the jar and welcomed you at the door with a beautiful smile. Her home and her yard were her sanctuary.

Magdalene was an active member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church. She belonged to the rosary society and volunteered many hours of service.

She is survived by her children, Betty Metz of Appleton, Nancy (Larry) Dietzler of Salt Lake City, UT, David (Barb) Shewczyk of Lublin and Dennis Shewczyk of Eau Claire. Mitzie was blessed with ten grandchildren, Tammy Hendricks, Tina Dahl, Mike and Mark Metz, Torie Walters, Kristin Dietzler, Amy and Derek Shewczyk, Barry and Larisa Shewczyk and thirteen grandchildren and one sister Margaret Badzinski of Thorp, two sisters in law, Betty Komanec of Thorp and Frances Komanec of Gilman and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry (2012), four sisters, Mary Vanderport, Louisa Nygren, Anna Imes, Barbara Kliscz and three brothers, John, Paul and Joseph Komanec.
