Gorbet, Mr. and Mrs. George (Silver – 6 July1974)

Mr. and Mrs. George Gorbet celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary recently at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville with around 150 relatives and friends in attendance.

They renewed their marriage vows after the 10:30 Mass, with the Rev. Joseph Henseler officiating, followed by dinner and reception in the church basement. Girls of the Busy Three 4-H Club, and other neighbor’s girls and ladies, assisted with the work.

George L. Gorbet and Mary Capaul were married July 6, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tomah, with the Rev. Fr. Bruderman officiating. There were married in the same church and by the same priest as her parents.

They lived in Racine County, where he had employment, from 1949 until May, 1960, when they purchased their farm, formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. George Allbaugh, then Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Kosmoski, where they still reside.

They have two sons, George Ray, and Gerald, both at home.

Mrs. Gorbet has been employed at Memorial Hospital for several years as a nurse’s aide.

She is a member of the Washburn Homemakers Club and Cannonville Ladies Aid and has held offices in both groups and presently is secretary of the Ladies Aid Society and treasurer of the Homemaker’s Club. She is also a member of a ladies group at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Gorbet wore her wedding dress and used the same cake top of 25 years ago, Mrs. Robert Mortenson baked their anniversary cake. Their bridesmaid, Mrs. Donald Bohac (then Jeannette Capaul) was in attendance, but their best man, Francis Rattle of Sparta, was unable to attend.

Those in attendance from away were: Mr. Gorbet’s mother, Mrs. Ray Gorbet of Millston; Mrs. Gorbet’s mother, Mrs. Earl Johnson of Warrens; Mr. Gorbet’s sister, Mrs. Al Wilson and son of Beloit; Mrs. Gorbet’s brothers and sisters and their families: Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Capaul and family of Luck; Mr. and Mrs. George Capaul, Grayslake, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. Antone Capaul and family of Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Harley Nicks of Warrens; and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Krohn and family of Camp Douglas.

Others from away attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Victor Capaul, Mrs. Anna Capaul, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Capaul, Mr. and Mrs. John Schroeder, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bohac and family, and the Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Schram and daugher, all of Alma Center; Norma, Jean, and Lorraine Lincoln of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Kraft of Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gschuind of La Crosse; Roland Gund of Chippewa Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hopfer and family of Milwaukee.

Most of their neighbors were in attendance also.

They were presented with many gifts of money and many anniversary cards.
