Bucheger, Edward

GREENWOOD – Edward Joseph Bucheger, 91, Greenwood, died at 3:03 a.m. Oct. 9, 1997, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen where he had resided the past three months.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood with the Rev. Joseph Follmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Cecelia’s Cemetery in Butternut in Ashland County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. There will be a scripture service at 8 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation will also be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Monday.

Maurina Funeral Home of Owen assisted the family with the arrangements.

Mr. Bucheger was born on July 19, 1906, in Glidden, the son of Leopold and Theresa (Schuster) Bucheger. He attended country school and at a young age joined his father in the logging and pulp business. On Sept. 11, 1935, Ed and the former Louise Von Drasek were united in marriage at the Immaculate Conception Church in Butternut.

After their marriage, Ed continued logging and also farmed. In 1950 the family moved to the Greenwood area where the farmed and Ed was a skilled carpenter and builder. Although self-employed, he worked for Pabich Construction in Thorp and Owen. He was later custodian for the Knights of Columbus Hall in Greenwood. For many years he was the town of Longwood assessor.

Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Ed and Louise enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. He enjoyed deer hunting, wood working projects for his family and friends and raising and training draft horses.

Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and mentor to his family and friends.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years of marriage, Lou; by his five sons, Dave (Carol) Bucheger of Rothschild, Dennis (Darlene) Bucheger of Greenwood, Joe (Candi) Bucheger of Onalaska, Jerry (Judy) Bucheger of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Jeff (Rose) Bucheger of Farmington, Minn.; two daughters, Jackie (Ross) Fritz of North Powder, Ore., and Judi (Noel) White of Cheney, Wash.; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers Paul (Florence) Bucheger of Butternut, Bernard (Stella) Bucheger of Dousman, Robert (Luana) Bucheger of Butternut; and three sisters, Gertrude Gisch and Teresa Mader, both of Park Falls and Catherine (Julian) Warren of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry Bucheger and Leo Bucheger; and three sisters, Margaret De Caire, Josephine Hilgers and Marie Engelbreth.

Memorials may be given in his name to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Educational Fund in Greenwood.
