Means, Bertha (22 SEP 1881 – 20 JAN 1967)

Funeral services were conducted at two o’clock Monday at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home for Mrs. John Means, 85, who died Friday in the General Hospital at Madison. The Rev. Robert Goessling, pastor of the Congregational Church, Owen, conducted the final rites, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Walter Fritz, Elton Fritz, Russell Doberstein, Charles Lehman, Lynn Shattuck and Fred Hoeper.

The former Bertha Bond was born September 22, 1881, at Mt. Sterling, Ill. Her marriage to henry Means, who preceded her in death, took place on September 16, 1903 at Mt. Sterling, Ill.

In 1915, they came to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) and settled on a farm in the town of Hoard. Mrs. Means had taught school in the Owen area, and prior to coming here had taught in the Mt. Sterling schools.

She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church at Mt. Sterling, Ill., and a member of the Eastern Star Lodge at Owen.

Survivors are a son, Waldo Means, Madison; a daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Alice) Schauer, Rib Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Ada buck, Normal, Ill., and Mrs. Mabel Bishop, St. Petersburg, Florida; seven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
