Raymond Dunlap, 70, of Neillsville died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at his home following a short illness.

Raymond Otto Dunlap was born May 31, 1946, in Peoria, IL, the son of James and Mildred (Meyers) Dunlap. He attended Neillsville High School and then entered the United States Army Jan. 4, 1966. He served during the Vietnam War era and was honorably discharged Dec. 15, 1967.

He was united in marriage May 22, 1970, to Patricia D. Smith, at the Cabbage Patch in Aurora, IL. They moved to Neillsville so they could be closer to Ray’s parents.

Ray attended Mid-State Technical College in Marshfield. While there, he earned the State National Carpentry Award in 1977. He used his carpentry skills to remodel his home and build his garage along with many other woodworking projects.

Ray drove truck for many years for Lynn Proteins, G & H Miller and DeBoer Trucking. He also delivered LP for Heartland Cenex. Eventually, he took a job at Nelson Muffler and worked there until they closed.

Ray was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Neillsville. He served as treasurer of the Neillsville American Legion Post #73, where he was a member and volunteer. In his spare time he loved to go camping, and he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three children: Julienne (Scott) Unertl of Greenwood, Raymond Scott (Kelly) Dunlap of Eau Claire and Jason (Angie) Dunlap of Minnetonka, MN; eight grandchildren: Ronnie, Jeff, Justin, Austin, Damion, Kyran, Aidan and Maddy. Ray is also survived by his mother Mildred Dunlap, and four siblings: Sharon (Dennis) Gall, Debbie (Bruce) Diebert, Barry (Karen) Dunlap and James (Kathy) Dunlap.

He was preceded in death by his father, James F. Dunlap; maternal grandparents, Otto and Leola Meyers; fraternal grandparents, Fred and Eva Lou Dunlap; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Evelyn Smith; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services for Raymond will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor Terry Marg will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Neillsville Veteran’s Council. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday at the Gesche Funeral Home.

Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren, Aidan Dunlap and Damion Logue.

Casketbearers are his sons and grandsons: Raymond Scott Dunlap, Jason Dunlap, Ronnie Vine, Jeff Vine, Justin Dunlap and Austin Dunlap.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.

Online condolences may be made at www.geschefh.com.  The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Raymond’s family with funeral arrangements.
