Habeck, Oscar (22 SEP 1883 – 14 MAR 1968)

Oscar Habeck, 84, Colby, died Thursday, March 14, 1968 at his home in Colby.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, with the Rev. David Pankow officiating. Burial was made in St. John's North Cemetery.

Pallbearers were all grandsons, George Zettler, Dean Habeck, Clifford Habeck, Stave Justman, Guy Habeck and Paul Habeck.

The soloist during the service was Richard Warren, with Mrs. Adelle Frome the organist.

The Lulloff Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Oscar Louis Habeck was born at Kewaskum September 22, 1883. His marriage took place at Kewaskum May 23, 1908, to the former Clara Raether. The couple farmed at Kewaskum until 1914, when they moved to Spencer, where he operated a shoe and harness shop for three years. In 1917, they moved to a farm east of Unity until 1944, when they moved to Colby.

While living in Colby, he worked for the Stieber Hardware Store and then Gregory Hardware Store until his retirement in 1962.

His first wife, died in 1952, and on October 7, 1953, he married Edna Weller, who survives.

He served as a school board member for the Enterprise district in the town of Brighton, and also held offices in the North Spencer Lutheran church organizations.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Loretta) Zettler of Colby, Mrs. Beverly Justman of Oshkosh and Mrs. Merlin (Delores) Justman of Unity, and five sons, Harold Habeck of Roanoke, Va., Edward Habeck of Wauwatosa, Alvin Habeck of Unity, John Habeck of Lodi, California, and Arnold Habeck of Stratford.

There are 27 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, John Habeck, and two sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Meta) Knowebel and Mrs. Harry (Cora) Williams, all of Milwaukee. Two sons and a daughter preceded him in death.
