Campbell, Mabel (1885? – 12 JAN 1961)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel (Buland) Campbell, 75, of Kalama, Washington, were held at 2 p.m. Monday,
January 16 in Kalama Community Hall. Interment was in Kalama IOOF Cemetery.

Mrs. Campbell died Thursday, January 12, 1961, in Longview. She was a cum laude graduate of the University of Washington, where she also received her Master's Degree. She attended Columbia University, received her Ph. D. at Yale, and was professor of English at the College of Puget Sound and Whitman College.

Active in civic affairs, she held numerous position during her career, including president, Columbia District Federation of Women's Clubs; vice chairman, Republican Central Committee; president, Washington State Federation of Women's Clubs; director general, Federation of Women's Clubs; member, Kalama School Board, and others.

Survivors include a son, George Campbell, Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. Sydney Lewis Jr., Corvallis; sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bryan, Portland, Ore.; brother, George L. Buland, Palo Alto, California, and four grandchildren. (Portland Oregonian)
